Hi, my name is Austin Otero. I’m a senior at Palmetto Senior High School. Before joining Peace of Pi, my SAT math score wasn’t improving at all. I had taken the test multiple times, and I even went down in one of my scores. I was frustrated because I felt like I was doing well, but my score kept coming back lower than what I needed. I was getting below a 1300 overall, and I knew I needed to improve to be competitive for schools like Cornell and other top colleges. That’s when I realized I needed tutoring.
I was initially hesitant about the virtual group learning environment because I expected it to be like the online school experience during COVID, which wasn’t engaging at all… but it was totally different. The tutors made sure that everyone participated. If you got a question wrong, they would go over it with you individually until you understood it. That made a huge difference because it forced me to really learn the material, not just skim through it.
The course was a lot of work—there’s definitely a good amount of homework—but it paid off in the end. I went from a 610 in math to a 730, which is a 120-point improvement! This result has put me in a much better position for my college applications, and now I feel more confident about getting the score I need.
For other students, I’d say the biggest thing is to stay consistent. Try to do a little bit every day, even if it feels like a lot. Don’t wait until the last minute and try to cram it all in. The work is manageable if you spread it out, and it really helps in the end. I’m really grateful for the support and the structure that Peace of Pi gave me—it helped me get the results I needed!
