+90 points on the SAT Math and +80 points on the SAT Reading!

“It felt great to break past 700 in both sections.”

I decided to join Peace of Pi because I took the SAT and didn’t get the score I needed for 100% Bright Futures, which I wanted to qualify for to go to UF. I knew I needed a higher score, but I had no idea how to do it on my own. I thought about trying Khan Academy, but I knew myself… I wasn’t going to actually do it without structure or accountability. I’ve never been great at standardized tests, so I just didn’t know how to study or even approach improving on one.

At first, I was nervous about joining because I already had another summer program that took up a lot of time, and I didn’t know how I’d balance both. But everything ended up being really well accommodated, so it worked out. The workload was definitely a lot, and I’ll be honest, I procrastinated. I didn’t always do my homework on time, but I made it up eventually. It wasn’t easy, but it got done.

The virtual classes ended up being really good. I felt represented, and I was able to ask questions and actually engage, which helped me stay focused. I had doubts at first about group tutoring, but it worked surprisingly well. The four-hour classes were long, but I’m kind of used to that since I go to a private school.  The break was needed, but it wasn’t too bad overall. Doing both the math and English preps at the same time was definitely a lot, but it was doable. I spent most of my time on math, and thankfully the English homework wasn’t as time-consuming.

My tutors were really good!  I liked them a lot. I know some people worry about the tutors being young or still in college, but honestly, I don’t think that matters. If you’re educated, you’re educated. They knew what they were doing, and it showed.

Overall, I think the classes were what helped me improve the most. The homework helped too, but learning in real time, being able to ask questions, and getting explanations right away made a big difference. My score went from a 1320 to a 1450: 720 in Reading and 740 in Math,  which I’m really proud of. It felt great to break past 700 in both sections. Now I can submit my score for UF and Bright Futures, which was the goal from the start.

Peace of Pi isn’t cheap, but it’s definitely worth it. Without it, I honestly wouldn’t have studied. My brother’s a year younger, and he’s planning on doing it too.
