+160 points on the SAT Math!

“Hitting a perfect math score felt surreal.”

I had only taken one SAT before joining Peace of Pi, and two of my friends who were at a similar math level to me had done the program and gotten amazing results. Seeing how well it worked for them made me want to give it a try, too. I’ve always been good at math, but my score didn’t really reflect that, and I struggled especially with the way the SAT phrases its harder questions. I’d understand the concepts, but sometimes the wording would confuse me and I’d lose time trying to figure out what the question was even asking.

Going into the program, I already knew it was going to be really time-consuming, and I was worried it might affect my social life or how much time I could dedicate to school. But I’d seen the results my friends got, and I knew that even if it was stressful, it would be worth it in the end. I committed to working about two hours a day and tried to stay productive during my free periods at school so I could keep up.

The virtual group classes were great. I honestly didn’t feel much of a difference compared to being in person. For me, the way I learn isn’t affected by the format as long as I’m engaged, and I definitely was. The classes were four hours, which sounds long, but I was able to stay focused pretty well. Maybe in the last 30 minutes I’d start to feel tired, but overall it was fine.

My tutors knew exactly what they were doing. I never felt like their age mattered at all; if anything, I think being closer in age makes them easier to relate to and learn from. You can tell they understand what it’s like to be in our position because they were just there themselves.

If I had to describe the program to another student, I’d tell them it works, but only if you do. It’s not enough to just show up to the Zooms or half-complete the homework. You have to actually put in the effort and be willing to sacrifice some free time. The students who see the biggest results are the ones who prioritize it and give it their all.

For me, the homework and video explanations helped the most. During class, I learned helpful tricks and strategies, but the real growth happened when I practiced on my own. The homework forced me to work through problems independently, and the video reviews helped me understand the ones I got wrong. Those videos were full of small tips that I remembered the most on test day.

All that work paid off! I got an 800 in math and a 1510 total, a 160-point improvement. Hitting a perfect math score felt surreal. The last few questions on the SAT, which are usually the hardest, ended up feeling easy because I had practiced so many similar problems with Peace of Pi. It made me so proud of myself and showed me that when I really focus and commit, I can achieve anything I want.

I’d recommend Peace of Pi 10 out of 10, but I’d also be honest with people… it’s not for everyone. You have to be ready to give it your full attention and maybe miss out on some plans for a while. It’s only ten weeks of your life, and when it’s over, it’s so worth it. My advice to anyone doing SAT prep is: don’t give up. It’s hard, and it might feel slow in the moment, but once it’s done, you’ll be so relieved and proud. You’ll never have to think about math again, because you’ll already have the score you wanted!
