+140 points on the SAT Math!
“If you’re thinking of joining Peace of Pi, just know that you have to put in the time….the course works if you do!”
I had taken the December SAT and felt frustrated. My reading score was in the 700s, but my math score was still in the low 600s, and I knew I could do better. I needed a program that really focused on math, and something intense that would push me. A friend who had done Peace of Pi recommended it, and once I saw what the program offered, I knew it was exactly what I needed.
The biggest issues I had before tutoring were timing and not fully knowing the math concepts. I’d miss the end questions and even get easy ones wrong because I didn’t really know how to approach them. Peace of Pi helped me fix both of those things. I learned the material deeply, and once I knew how to handle the problems, I was able to move through the test way faster. Eventually, the timing issue just resolved itself.
At first, I was nervous about balancing the workload with everything else going on in junior year. But once I got into it, I realized that if you pace yourself and stick to the schedules they send, it’s completely manageable. I used every free moment I had during school and in between classes to get assignments done, so I wouldn’t fall behind. I even worked ahead when I could. It’s definitely a lot, but if you stay on top of it, it’s doable.
The four-hour Zoom classes sounded long at first, but they actually went by faster than I expected. It’s not just sitting and listening. You’re actively doing math the whole time, asking and answering questions, and the tutors keep it engaging. Plus, the classes are in the morning, so once you’re done, you still have the rest of your day.
One of the things I appreciated most about Peace of Pi was the tutors themselves. Some explained things better than others, but they all knew what they were doing. Honestly, I thought it was a plus that they were close in age to us. They’ve just been through the SAT and college admissions themselves, so everything they taught felt really fresh and relevant. It also made the environment feel more relaxed and comfortable.
The most helpful part of the whole experience, for me, was the homework. That’s where I really practiced and got the material down. I saw my score improve because I was consistent, and I didn’t give up even when it got hard. There were definitely moments when I felt tired or like I didn’t want to keep going, but I kept reminding myself that it would be worth it in the end…and it was!
If you’re thinking of joining Peace of Pi, just know that you have to put in the time. Don’t slack off. If you’re already committing to it, do it right. The course works if you do. Your score will reflect the effort you put in, and honestly, it’s all going to pay off.
