Read MoreI realized that I needed help with improving my SAT score when it was January of my Junior year, and I had never really taken a practice test or prepped for the SAT in any way. I only had a couple of months left before my first SAT, and I was not at all satisfied with my performance on the PSAT. A lot of kids experience this when they are in a magnet school since we’re often a year or two ahead in our math courses and the material on the SAT is information we haven’t covered in quite a while. It felt like a huge challenge for me to cover years’ worth of material that I hadn’t been exposed to in so long.
This was around the time where I first heard of Peace of Pi Learning through a couple of my friends who had completed the course and seen a drastic improvement in their scores. I started looking more and more into this tutoring program, only to find that countless students had improved by 100+ to even 200+ points. Not to mention that Renan himself has gotten a perfect score on the SAT math several times. It was clear that Renan not only knew and understood how to take the test himself, but that he could teach his students to do the same.
I was a little hesitant at first, but overall, I considered it to be a worthwhile investment given that by taking the tutoring it would allow me to meet and exceed the score needed for Florida Bright Futures (which covers all of tuition in any Florida Public University). Looking back I recognize how taking this SAT prep course saved me thousands of dollars in tuition that I no longer have to pay.
Immediately after meeting Renan and having the first tutoring session, I knew that I had made the right choice. His passion for teaching and helping his students understand the material makes him one of the best teachers I’ve ever had. He truly cares about his student’s learning, and that shines through with all of the extra time and effort that he puts in to ensure his students’ success. For me, the group tutoring was a lot like taking a class at school- where your friend asks an important question that you hadn’t even thought of.
The dynamic of a group worked really well, and it allowed for a deep overview of the material given the collaboration and participation of all the members. This is not to mention the extra time that Renan puts in as he attends to students on an individual basis too and tracks their improvement to personalize and cater a study plan to fit their needs. Even just two sessions in, I had already seen a huge improvement in my skills. Furthermore, the tutoring is set up in an efficient way that allowed me to understand how to take the SAT, as well as the kinds of questions that will be on it.
Renan will take one common SAT math problem and analyze what makes that question difficult for students, and as a result, he composes entire packets of questions that address that one type of problem. By the end of the tutoring, I felt that I had mastered every kind of SAT question. Not only could I solve them, but I was able to do it quickly with ample time to double and triple-check my work. This is what gave me an advantage on the SAT, when I walked into the test no problem surprised or confused me. It was all concepts that I had reviewed with Renan multiple times
I am incredibly grateful to Renan and Peace of Pi Learning for preparing me so well for the SAT. Achieving a good score has opened up so many doors for me. I’ve been able to get into amazing institutions, like UF and Johns Hopkins, and have been awarded scholarships like Florida Bright Futures.
