+270 points on the SAT Math!

“…this course taught me that improvement takes real effort and consistency. It’s not easy but if you put in the work, you’ll see the results.”

I decided to join Peace of Pi after taking a practice test over the summer and realizing I was nowhere near my goal score. I hadn’t done any tutoring before and hadn’t really studied on my own either, so I knew I needed help if I wanted to improve. Math has always been my stronger subject, but my score definitely wasn’t showing that. I’d get stuck on the harder questions, waste time trying to figure them out, and then run out of time before finishing the section.

Coming into the program, my biggest concern was definitely the workload. I’d never really done homework consistently, so seeing “two hours a day” was kind of scary. But I found ways to manage it.  I used my free periods at school to get a lot of it done instead of wasting time watching Netflix or hanging out with friends. It ended up being manageable once I made it a priority.

The virtual classes felt just like being in person. I’d work on problems, send my answers in the chat, and stay really engaged the whole time. I actually liked that it was online because it was so convenient. I could just walk to my room, hop on Zoom, and get started. The four-hour classes sounded intimidating at first, especially since I have a short attention span, but it wasn’t as bad as I expected. You’re constantly solving problems and participating, so it goes by faster than you’d think.

My tutor explained everything really clearly and made sure I actually understood each concept before moving on. I didn’t have any concerns about her being young or still in college. She was amazing at teaching and knew exactly what she was doing.

The most helpful part of the program was definitely the homework. It gave me extra practice outside of tutoring and really helped solidify what I learned. That constant repetition made the strategies stick, especially for the harder questions that used to trip me up.

By the end of the program, my math score went from a 490 to a 760, a 270-point improvement. I was honestly shocked and so proud of myself. That score qualified me for Bright Futures and opened the door to applying to a lot of schools in Florida that I didn’t think I’d have a chance at before.

My advice to other students is simple: don’t expect a magic fix. Before I started, I thought I’d just somehow get an 800, but this course taught me that improvement takes real effort and consistency. It’s not easy but if you put in the work, you’ll see the results.
