Hey! My name is Julia Freire, and I’m a senior at MAST. I took the Peace of Pi Learning SAT prep course for the November 2022 and August 2023 SAT exams. I needed more practice and content review because I lacked confidence and scored poorly on PSATs compared to my target. Seeing peers succeed on the SAT without prep made me stressed that I’d end up submitting low scores on college applications.

Hey! My name is Tom Sela. I’m a Junior at Don Soffer High School, and I tutored with Peace of Pi! Before POP, I felt very lost when it came to SAT math preparation. HI! I’m Elizabeth Varela, a junior at the School for Advanced Studies at Kendall Campus. My journey with Peace of Pi SAT tutoring began after my sophomore year when I scored 520 on my PSAT, a result that didn’t align with my potential. I knew I could do better, but I needed a refresher. My mom had seen Peace of Pi on Instagram, and we decided to give it a shot for the summer.

Hi, Peace of Pi followers! My name is Zoe McMahon, and I’m a senior at Pompano Beach High School. When I first approached SAT prep, I realized I wasn’t retaining what I had studied with online courses like Khan Academy. Despite excelling in math, I struggled with remembering geometry and algebra concepts from middle school. 

My first SAT showed me my efforts weren’t working and left me feeling lost in my study methods. That’s when I heard about Peace of Pi Learning from my friend Chloe and her mom. Initially, I was hesitant and worried about feeling embarrassed or not participating enough. It was like that for me during virtual school, and I was scared it would be the same thing all over again. However, the smaller classroom environment with other students at a similar level made such a difference.

Managing the workload is different between the school and summer programs. During school, I spread the work across days due to other things that got in the way, like homework or clubs. However, during summer, I focused on math exclusively, which made me more focused and allowed me to dedicate more time.

The second round of prep was actually more challenging for me. I aimed to improve from a higher score, and the higher you get, the harder it is to improve on the SAT. However, the gradual progression helped bridge gaps and made me feel capable of tackling more complex problems.

This program changed everything for me. After my first session, I went from a 580 to a 690, an already insane 110-point increase. And now, after another round in the program,, I’m consistently scoring in the 700s, with my highest score at 740!

But beyond the numbers, Peace of Pi Learning instilled confidence in me. Small victories in practice tests boosted my motivation and made me believe in my potential. My name is Anabella Ludovic, and I’m in 11th grade at Coral Reef. My journey began when I was looking at my PSAT scores. My math score just kept going down. I’ve never been bad at math or anything, but I would forget how to do things really easily, and then the things I would know how to do, I’d overcomplicate them, and so I’d run out of time, and it was just a mess. 

I heard about Peace of Pi from one of my best friends, who told me she had enrolled in the past and had seen some really great results. I knew I had to give it a shot. The virtual group environment surpassed my expectations. I was scared at first that I would be bored, but when I actually got there, it was a lot different. I was actually focused, I paid attention, and you guys did some really cool things to get me to pay attention. You have to send in the answer in the chat every single time, and that was really helpful in actually getting me to keep paying attention. The tutors would focus on teaching math, but sometimes they would ask you about yourselves, and they would tell you about their lives, and it was a cool experience. 

My main tutor, Cori, was fantastic. It felt like a deep dive into math concepts, but it was far from dull. They explained things I never thought I’d need to understand better. The workload was a lot, especially with summer homework, but it paid off big time. There’s a direct relationship between how much work you put in and what score you’re going to get because of the fact that there’s so much stuff to remember.

Balancing it with work was tough, but Peace of Pi’s guidance helped me fit study sessions into my routine. And the results? I jumped +250 points from my PSAT score to an almost perfect 780 on the SAT Math, contributing to a composite score of 1500! Right now, my friends are starting to stress. They’re like, ‘Oh, wow, I haven’t tutored, I don’t know what I’m going to do’, but I’m done. It’s freeing.

Hi, I’m Angelina, and I’m in 11th grade at International Studies Preparatory Academy. I took the SAT twice. Initially, I tried self-studying and even had tutoring from another service, but I was stuck around the 480 to 500 range. I needed a higher score for Florida Bright Futures, especially since I aim to become a nurse. I set the goal for myself to get Florida Bright Futures, and I hoped that at the end of the tutoring, I would get 100%. I was already close to 75%, so I thought at least I’d get 75%. But I was hopeful that I would make it to that 100%. 

My biggest frustration was facing 8th and 9th-grade math concepts that I hadn’t revisited. COVID messed up my math learning, although I’ve always been good at it and have always gotten As in my classes. I was in pre-calc last year, so I had a strong foundation, but the test material seemed disconnected from my recent coursework.

I always struggled with Zoom and math in general in Zoom. I started off with a private tutor twice a week, but I realized after a while it wasn’t for me. So that’s when I had the meeting with Peace of Pi. I really trusted my friend, who recommended me, Gaby, in the sense that she was saying that it was really helping her but that it was a lot of hard work. She was doing so many different things while she took your tutoring. And she showed me the amount of coursework she had, but I was ready to do the work.

When I joined Peace of Pi’s tutoring, it was a game-changer. The workload was no joke, but with my friends’ support, we tackled it together, meeting at Starbucks for hours to focus and study. We would just jam-pack as much homework as we could. For certain practice tests, like when it started getting closer to the SAT, I would have like seven practice tests a week and stuff like that. 

Peace of Pi was surprisingly really interactive. You would think that it’s just a regular Zoom class in which you just play in the background, and you could have your camera off. But, surprisingly, it’s really not. You have to have your camera on, and every 3 seconds, we’re moving on to a new problem. So you grab your phone for 1 second, and we’re already two problems ahead. If one person didn’t submit their answer, that person would have to explain. And it’s not like you’d have that much time. You’d think that you’re on there for like 4 or 5 hours, and you could sneak your phone in a little bit, a little phone time, but you really can’t.

The Peace of Pi team kept my mom informed, which she appreciated, even though she didn’t need to worry. They provided consistent support, and the results spoke for themselves. The experience was intense, especially as the test date neared. But this dedication paid off, and I went from a 490 to a 700 on my SAT math score!
